well after dark on 2016 June 01 (June 1st): noticed well maintained W track, but wuts go'n on w/ the E track being transformed into 2 parallel approximately 2 foot guage tracks?! this occurs on a football field length stretch w/ a switch @ each end. big sign proclaims sumthing like :"DANGER - KEEP OFF - SPEED TEST AREA". & WOULDN'T U KNO IT - the distance between these two 2 foot guage tracks is quite likely 8 & a half inches, minus the top surface width of 2 rails.

_ _ _ (mid-Cloverdale) driving "RoW N-ward" the track was more visible but the roads drifted away from it. seems there was a definite drop in elevation. came upon a stretch of track again but could see it heading into trees & thick vegetation so drifted away on down the road again. still dropping, came into a hairpin curve & shortly switched off the road to a multiple residence type access drive which i knew would keep me closer to the lost again track. a mile or so on this and i came to a stretch of clearing w/ the track in full view. pulled rite up next to it on a wide stretch of trail. i'm sure this was the elevational "bottoms" for the RoW in Cloverdale. 1 or 2 houses rather close but it was mid day full sun lite w/ zero banjo music so got out & had my look. condition of track seemed exceptionally good but in both directions was quickly trespassed upon by stuff growing out of the ground @ inch or 2 diameter.

N thru a shop type building & thru the fenced perimeter. looked like an abandoned scrapyard - white pik up w/ NWPRR logo on door & smashed  windshield. debris everywhere -

a bit S of the NWPRR bridge there's an old passenger coach on a W of RoW siding - sits just inside sum active fenced in industrial area, slightly S of Grant AVENUE as I recall.

arrived at Cloverdale around noon (June 2nd). inquired @ S side antique shop as to location of RR - was told of a station near the freeway. thought it strange that i hadn't even noticed tracks, i'd just been there. went back to interchange, ended up i think a bit N of that where i saw track abruptly coming W out of nowhere, then after a sharp R turn continued in2 a fenced in area. looked like the 101 freeway had been installed as close to the RoW as possible. track continued

moving along N bound, sumtime very early on June 2nd i was looking over the traditionally rebuilt stretch thru Windsor - rail spiked to wood ties, shiny new grade crossing signal sheds & new or refurbished signals/gates. but early on in2 Healdsburg it was obvious the end of the rebuild was a mile or 2 behind me. however, a large scale weed clearing project was under way near the station. one of the workmen (flagging traffic) said the area was being prepared for a railroad history park type development.

you're probably right. I justnow did a yahoo search on that - it came back w/ several foto's from ~our~ site, 1 of which looks quite a bit like what i was seeing. and i remember in previous nwprr.net there were a lot of complaints about SMART's plans to install it @ stations. spoze2 b a problem for the freights. yes, a problem for freights and about any other type of rail traffic from the looks of it.

I'm guessing you might be seeing a gauntlet track?
