So,

I'm wanting to know. Is CWR still safe or are they under a threat currently? A friend just informed me that the trail agency is seeking a hostile abandonment of the CWR in it's entirety in retaliation for announcing that they wanted to go north about 16 miles to use the line to move freight. Is this move even legal in the slightest?
Also, what's the deal with all the equipment from the Willits yard being suddenly moved down to the NWP/CWR interchange?

I know this might be a far fetched idea, but would reactivating the corridor between Redwood Valley and Cloverdale be less expensive than trying to reopen the line to South Fork? Judging by the pictures I've seen of the Russian River Canyon, all the tracks need is ballast filled in and brush removed. The tunnels are in great shape too, (Except tunnel #4, was that the one that caught fire?) but could that be fixed? Also, maybe CWR could take advantage of this as well, and run their…

That would be something to see.
Is the Northern End still in consideration for reopening service to Eureka?tag:nwprr.net,2017-03-07:3290209:BlogPost:1729032017-03-07T19:00:00.000ZEmilio Galohttps://nwprr.net/profile/Theduckmstr1

I was wondering if service would ever return to the northern end of the railroad, as they have returned to the southern portion of the line. I know it would take a lot of cash and a lot of repair work, but could it be done? I think it could be done. I would like to see trains running north again, even if it is in the distant future.

Found out some handy information on THA from a fellow NWP fan.

One, current operating negotiations between THA and NRCA specify speeder-only on the Samoa, Eureka, Fortuna, and Loleta segments. Three, the museum's current goals (obviously dictated on financial terms) area to finish buying the Samoa facility and developing the restoration facilities/museum grounds first, then work on operating rights once there is no eviction threat, when there is operable equipment, and when we get our name out there in the local community, right now we're still fairly obscure.

Fortunately right now our local popularity is growing and fortunately the Humboldt Bay trail projet is a rail-with-trail deal, but until our equipment is restored and FRA-legal, the track/bridges/crossings are restored back to FRA-spec, we have operating consent from Arcata/Eureka, and we get trained railroaders in our ranks, actual train operations are still a when in a distant future. Right now we only have consent to clear brush and flangeways, no actual track work is permitted at the moment. There've been some other segments cleaned too, but not by us. Local law enforcement has really cracked down on the homeless encampments on the tracks, there's been defoliation in west Arcata, near Bayshore Mall, and south Fortuna too.

Is NWP repairing this locomotive? I'm confused.tag:nwprr.net,2016-08-03:3290209:BlogPost:1632292016-08-03T10:21:39.000ZEmilio Galohttps://nwprr.net/profile/Theduckmstr1

Came across this picture on the web, and it appears that 4347 has had all of her lights replaced, is NWP planning to repair her? If you have any information regarding this locomotive, please let me know. Also, what is the current status of #3804? Is she still sitting in the dead line?

Emilio Galo…

Not to hate on SMART, but will there be any old tracks left by the time they are done? it seems to me that they are replacing everything, with no intent of keeping anything that is considered old. Hopefully, this will not happen once the trains reach Ukiah and the other Northern cities. I was also wanting to know if NWP has any plans for freight service north of Windsor.

You may notice the fence next to the locomotives, Eureka put it up to "preserve" the artwork on the locomotives. #3190 hauled President Eisenhower, and it hauled the famous Powhatan Arrow.

If you want these to be saved, post what you think about this. The bottom image is what it looked like in 1997, before the rotting happened, and the railroad was still maintained. Abandoning these trains, in my opinion, is not good for the NWP or the environment.
