Dedicated to Sharing the Heritage of Redwood Empire Railroading

Its been a little over a year since I moved from California and had to get out of the hobby, but to try and get back into it lately I had my parents
ship up some of my old projects, and thanks to eBay and Amazon bought some decals, assorted parts and details online. The first one is this 3500
series hopper that I just started this past week or so (s/o to
Microscale BNSF hopper decals coming in white). The only difficulty I am
really having right now is the FRA white striping on the bottom,
just making sure that they are evenly spaced and in line with each other. I
tried using masking tape, but often when I pulled that off it would pull
off the decals as well. Any recommendations by senior modelers?

I appreciate it - Thank you for your service!

I will post updates on the SD's.! I'm excited to see how they come along as my skill set in modeling increases!

Sounds fantastic Chad! I was just curious. I flew into Juneau once, in bright sunshine. It was very interesting then, let alone in bad weather. I am sure you are getting many experiences to remember.

I was just curious about the SD's.  Be sure to share photos of your models as they come along.

And lest we forget, thank you for your service. Having spent 15 months in South East Asia, I know what being away from family and friends is like.

Why didn't I think of that?!? Fantastic idea, the car looks significantly better now, thank you!!

I'm stationed in the southeast panhandle of Alaska, in the capital city of Juneau. I just received two of the SD9e conversion kits in the mail yesterday from...details west? I don't remember the exact company, I found it on eBay. I painted one last year but life got busy and I wasn't able to finish much more than that. They're my next project! Still doing research to see what I want to do with them rail company-wise after the conversion. I have been purchasing and working on a few cheaper Athearn dummy units to practice my painting and detailing skills on first before I start an all out assault on the SDs, I want these to be the Crown Jewels of my fleet when I'm done with them. :)

Looking good Chad! Where are you stationed now? Are the SD's part of your upcoming modeling efforts?

Stay safe!

Hey Chad!

On 87-1414 I have the FRA reflector/delimeters pre-spaced on one stripe of clear. It'll make decalling that car a lot easier as you won't have to do each one, lay down a single stripe and you will be done. The delimeters are actually for 1922 but I'm sure they will look good on your hopper just as well
