Very interesting, indeed -- is this the future of railfanning? I know that similar remote-control VTOL rigs include cameras which move on one or two axes, which is perhaps where Jacob is heading with this. Thanks for sharing!

I know that with my luck if I tried this. it would get stuck on the train in such a way that it couldn't take off again.

For a trial shot it was great. I look forward to great videos.

That's cool.  Had to do a search for "Quadcopter" to see what it looks like.  Would be great to get a shot from above as a train went by.

Thanks!  I've learned in my very short experience doing this that the best images come when you have a flight plan that "gets the shot"... which is *not* what I did here (sorry) it was just practice staying along the tracks where people and electric wires weren't - there is a lot more awesomeness at RR Square to look at - I'll get it next time :-)  Knowing when deliveries happen would be a big help towards getting actual train shots.  I'm a bit out of that timing loop these days...  And, I am only physically in SR on Tues, Weds & Thurs.

Nice Job, that was a great idea. Next time wait for the train and take arial shots of the switching.
