Steve,
What can I say? GREAT video! Where the 1922 stops at Schellville is just about where the old SP/NWP trains would stop for crew changes. Back in the 1950s, 60's, 70's all those trees along that fence line didn't exist, it was wide open on the east side of the fence. When my cousin owned the property that's where I'd be standing when the train came in from Napa. Sometimes back a little farther on the curve also was another spot I'd stand and collect waves from the engine crew, my cousins pumphouse and water tank back there then. He used to fill the tank with a small "hit n miss" motor attached by belt to an old windmill pump. Steve.....Thanks for the memories.

"I guess if it wasn't under lock and key and razor wire, the hoodlums would have a graffiti day on the old engine." Charles, you got that right. Some kids these days, I swear must've been raised by wolves! Because it's mostly my own generation who do it, these works of "art" if you even feel generous enough to call it that. I feel sorry that the kids who do graffiti have nothing productive to do whatsoever. Just a cheap thrill I guess, or sometimes gang initiation I'd bet.

Comment by Steve Atnip on December 12, 2011 at 7:08pm I'm at the Ignacio Wye (Hwy 37 & 101) looking east towards Blackpoint. (Novato) You can see the headlight from at least the time Hwy 37 crosses Atherton Ave, maybe farther, it's a LONG straight level shot.
Comment by Charles Forssi on December 12, 2011 at 6:55pm Where does that straightaway track go at 6minutes and 15 seconds? Is that the route north or south?
Comment by Charles Forssi on December 12, 2011 at 6:50pm My favorite engine #1922. I guess if it wasn't under lock and key and razor wire, the hoodlums would have a graffiti day on the old engine. Lucky for us they invented a way to keep the artists out! Now if they would only have a caboose, my day would be made.
