Wow. Things sure happen fast in small town counties.

I wonder how they're going to deal with suicides in the future, 24/7 monitoring of crossing (like what Richard said)?

My condolences.

Holy cow!   I saw the news on the congressional Amtrak accident, but not this.  My wife, who is traveling in Asia forwarded a CBS news clip on this.

Condolances, especially for the SMART train crew.

Thanks Bob.  Yes the situation got so bad here with suicides on Caltrain that Palo Alto has now had to hire guards to do 24 surveillance at all 4 crossings in our city.

24 hours because of the freight trains at night.

Female adult struck by train around 7:36 AM at Hearn Avenue (Santa Rosa) grade crossing. According to Santa Rosa Press Democrat, witness reported victim knew train was approaching and the train blew its horn, but she failed to move off the track. Witness quoted as saying, "I've never seen a body so twisted." Crew and passengers interview by SRPD. Train cab camera video to be reviewed. Two hour system delay. Buses used to shuttle passengers around the scene. All up and running by 9:40 AM.

One might conclude suicide was the likely cause. This is a problem CalTrain has had for many years, often averaging one suicide a month (yes, a month!)  SMART just got it's baptism of blood, sadly.
