I like this page over facebook, however all the good content is showing up on facebook for some reason... I have to get my fix somewhere...
LOL! Sounds like F'book is worse than before.
And cheers to Mark Drury for providing us with this medium. If only he would show up at the Menlo Park model railroad I'd thank him personally.
Amen to that! I started following FB because there were people I know on there and interesting groups. (I do recommend the Market Street Railway Group, though. https://www.facebook.com/groups/6367009087/) FB just way too full of advertisements and "click bait" collecting information on you to better pump more advertising into your pipeline. It's also rather aggravating to be reminded daily of how incredibly stupid so many people are.
I too abhor what Facebook is and is becoming. This site, in contrast, is free of advertising (although it must cost Mark something to keep in running), and is not larded up with dozens upon dozens of third-party scripts which perform various degrees of user tracking, slowing the browsing experience.
NING (this platform) does have issues and annoyances, but to not be bombarded with so much extraneous noise and advertising is a trade-off I'll take any day. Nevertheless, I do disable the Google Analytics scripts that this site tries to run.
Finally, your data on Facebook, at least in the past, isn't safe. I had a specific e-mail address that I used only with Facebook. That e-mail address now receives tons of spam, while other e-mail addresses that I use with financial institutions are completely spam free.
If you have any NWP or related news, photos, videos, or thoughts, please post here!
Not me Richard. While it has been quiet I think many are just holding back.
If some NWPRR's have decided to spend more time on F'book a warning to them. I live in Palo Alto where f'book was started with Venture Capital funding I and have input into their biz plan.
So to NWP f'book members if you have signed up with f'book and answered all of their profile questions (You did not have to fill in all of the blanks.) careful.
Now when you log into f'book for whatever subject you are following including NWPRR, f'book will track your browser selections and then report them to their advertisers.
So every time you post on the f'book NWP site you are being "watched" to see what is your interest. As an example if you select the NWP Lagunitas story, you will receive advertising from many beer cos (probably not Lagunitas). If you select San Rafael expect to receive advertising and/or emails from Scandinavian Designs. That is the way it is pay for you to post.
So on this site it is only Mark Drury who will be "searching" your post and I suspect he may not care.
