I remember hearing there was a rescue mission planned for the Daylight car in Healds last mo, any update or was that just cruel rumor?

As a member of the "On to Healdsberg" group on this site, I'm curious to know where is our lead Mike Cook on this important NWPRR subject.  I for one having been waiting to see when a NWP loco would venture north to the yard where the Daylight car was stored and bring it to a place where it could be rebuilt to AAPRCO specs.

But given the car is now in Windsor, I'd be surprised if the car would be put on the rails to get to Napa.  The RoW is now a certified FRA rail line and I'd guess that means that any car on the SMART rails must be certified to comply with FRA safety specs.

The SS yard would make a perfect site for someone to rebuild the car and outfit it with FRA approved trucks.

I took a picture today of it but I can't figure out how to get a picture to upload here. It's easy to see but not in a good spot for pictures.

Chad Gustafson:  Welcome home - and thank you for your Coast Guard service!  Question: how much of the Daylight car is visible from the street?  Just curious to know if there's a photo opportunity.

.

I believe it was on the CalRailfans Facebook page... and the dude didn't have much more info other than it was going to be moved, they wanted to do it quickly and that it was from a "reliable source." I just got back into town a few days ago so I wasn't really paying much attention living way up north!

Must be worthy of running to Napa by rail. Quite the project to move it 5 miles by truck. I also thought someone. Grabbed a truck and tow line and said "**** it, we will just get it to Windsor by rail". Even by truck and crane, how did we miss it??? They snuck this by a lot of people who you think would have heard.

Just swung by, the car is in fact there in Standard Structures. Guy in the lot next door said the car was brought in by truck and crane! I was thinking it was brought down in the dead of the night in a secret squirrel move but he said he saw it and was impressed. He also said the car is going to Napa for private ownership.
