PNG files offer a lossless form of compression, whereas JPG image compression often makes compromises which result in aliasing, interference patterns, or simply a fuzzy image.  I'm finding that the PNG files of the 1986 Schellville repairs show up fine on my phone (Safari) or on a Microsoft browser (the PNG format is a Microsoft creation).  However, that really doesn't explain why "View Full Size" provides improved images on Firefox.

png files can have transparency appears to be the problem here. jpg files do not and when saved wont have this issue. If the transparency is removed in the png files, they will appear normal.

Dave, I have always scanned and saved as JPG's. Both my B7W's have always appeared normal. I don't know if them being PNG files make a difference.

What ever the file system, these are great shots.  A great reminder that water has always been a problem for the NWP.

They look better in full size to me as well.

... dark, or normal contrast.  However, everywhere else on this site these photos appear washed out.  Anyone else run into this?  I scanned, cropped, saved as PNG then uploaded.
