Dedicated to Sharing the Heritage of Redwood Empire Railroading

Hey Zac:

Have a idea.  I've been thinking of hiking various parts of the old NWP trackage and see how they look and maybe run across some things to take pictures of.  I was going to do this in sections and I was wondering if you are up to maybe going along?  Maybe could even get KT (Dad) to trot along with us.  Could maybe do this on some good days during the week or maybe on some weekends.  I was going to try it myself, but, would be nice to have company.  Maybe some of the other local fans would like to do this also.  Just thought that I would run this by you and see what you thought.

Will talk to you later,  Eldon

Hi to all: HUTCH 7.62 does make sense about the possibility of illegal pot grows in some areas, but, I think that the areas that we are looking at for a beginning would be clear due to the nature of where the tracks are located.  Now when you get into the Southern part of Humboldt County and the Eel River Canyon parts, that would probably be a area to be very careful in being without a number of members being together and watchful.  My hope would be that we start in areas around Stafford on to Eureka-Aracata until we get more famlier with the tracks and enviroment.  Just my take on it anyway.  Could be that the first trip we make, we meet ahead of time and map out the steps that we would take incase of a problem.  I'm sure most of us has cell phones.  Thanks to all for keeping this a great place to talk and go over the good times of the NWP Railroad system.

Just be careful. Many an illegal pot farm exists along the old right away.

I'm with Mark!  I have been backpacking for most of my life and spend an incredible amount of time in the Trinities, Marbles and Siskiyous, and I'd love to do an extended trip along the ROW through the Eel River canyon.  We've paddled our canoe from Alderpoint to Eel Rock a few times and had the pleasure of seeing trains run through that stretch but never hiked any of the ROW.  Sounds like a great set of spring, summer and fall trips!  Count me in!

It is trespassing if you do not have permission. There is no could be about it.

Beware the wilds. Stick to the tracks if you must go.

OK, Eldon, keep in touch. South Fortuna Blvd to the Livestock yards would work just fine by me.

@Chad-Technically, it could be trespassing, but there are SO many homeless bums living on the tracks in certain places in Fortuna already, obviously trespassing, but neither the Fortuna Police nor the Sheriff seem to be able to do anything about it. Now maybe it's because the Humboldt Hilton is overcrowded, and maybe our DA just doesn't give a damn, but as long as they're not harassing people or otherwise breaking the law, the Police here seem to have their hands tied about these homeless on the ROW. So I imagine we won't be bothered either.

I would love to do this...just give me enough time if it's ok...
Another thing...would it be trespassing?

Hi Zac:  Ok, lets see about working on this project.  It sounds like you like the idea also and from some of the comments, there are others who would like to get in also.  I guess with the upcoming weather patterns coming in, maybe sometime in the middle of March would be a good time to try a short jaunt and see how it works out.  I've been looking at the stretch from South Fortuna Boulavard up to the area North of the livestock auction yards in Fortuna as a beginning point.  Maybe we can get together in the next week and talk about it or if you have another idea that would work for me.  If any of the other fans would like to be involved, they can let us know what they think also.  I'm pretty open to other people's idea's.

Talk with you soon, Eldon

If I was up there, I would love to do it.

I'm very, very interested in doing this. The eel river valley in particular.
