Dedicated to Sharing the Heritage of Redwood Empire Railroading

The previous meeting the board the approval of the reception of the Northern Humboldt Bay report. This meeting they approved a broad community based resolution to support Rail with trail from Samoa to Eureka.

Healdsburg bridge was brought up. Healdsburg has yet to request NCRA to take action or even discuss the possibility of using the bridge for pedestrians and bikes. It was noted the PUC publicly opposes the conversion because it sets a precedent. It was noted the operator opposes such use for he intends to use the tracks up to Geyserville in a year. At least I think it was Geyserville. However SMART owns the bridge with NCRA having an easement.

Well... I see that bridge every time I go to my Grandparents. In fact, I'm going to their house today! The bridge looks to be in okay shape, but god knows what has happened to it over the years... Isn't there a lot of little bridges before the Healdsburg trestle?

The trains will be running to Healdsburg in 2013, and to Ukiah and Willits by 2015, sorry Healdsburg, that bridge is VITAL, find another bridge to "borrow".  These people seem to forget the rest of Sonoma and Mendocino County, they only see their narrow, elite little world.

Umm, the Eel River section does not have to be fixed to operate trains in Eureka area.

Currently there is the speeder operating in the area giving rides during the Summer.

THA also is working on a passenger train from Samoa to Eureka.

The Operator said he can run a profitable short line from Samoa to South Fork.

Then you have the East-West proposal. That has a large section of support for the feasibility study over the area it would cover.

Anthony, who knows. Have you ever seen the tracks in the Eel River Canyon...?

Thanks for the update LL.  I go with the PUC.....a precedent like that would set us back into the dark ages.  Rail and Trail should be separate entities.....that's my feeling.  Keep the public away from any mildly high speed network or passenger entity.  I also oppose Rail with trail, except for class 3 railroads or right-of-ways.  Having been on the receiving end of the public blunders and mis-steps, with my work in the past, I am fully in support of separation.
