We need to all plan a trip to do this if it were to happen at all. I'd love to go.

I'm VERY interested in getting to Island Mountain and am willing to put some money behind it.

I'm a pilot and have thought of hiring a helicopter from Ukiah or Arcata to simply fly and drop me off at Island Mountain. With a small training helicopter (plenty for hire) it wouldn't be that expensive...

The only other realistic solution seems to be a raft trip down the Eel River. Hiking in from either north or south just doesn't look realistic to me....

HUTCH 7.62......good job......you have a very good sense of humor, much like mine.  I like your comments.....they crack me up,.....and I enjoy them.  The part about the rusty old AK-47 is good.  I was in the NAM so it rings a bell.....Hey.....I've got a great idea......we could go up there to the old Island Mountain and get those pot farmers and isolated scavengers and introverts messed up on our humorous stories......we could even take a few old rusty 155 millimeter cannons with us to make it real exciting.....with shells of course.  Take Care Man.....and keep those comments coming along....jbriogrande.....

JB would you want to live in a makeshift tent along the Eel tending to someones crops for slave wages with no medical or benefits and only a rusty worn out AK-47 to protect you?

I didn't know that Americans weren't involved in the illegal substance business.  Learned something new.......guess that type of business isn't too lucrative.....i.e.  poor wages....

Here is the deal......any farm even remotely close to Island Mountain is suspicious.  No access roads are sufficient for hauling ones produce or crops of any kind to market.....think about it......One of these days that entire area will be busted big time....but for now they are most likely under constant watch.  It will be an S&D raid, you can bet on that, and arrests will be many, as well as deportations to prisons in the South.  All of this can be avoided by legalizing pot,....once and for all.  Say no to crime in CA.  It's only common sense.........

That little farm just north of the I.M. tunnel looks mighty suspicious. Very primitive road leading into it. And a stupid location considering the Eel river history of flooding. Stupid location unless you are using water from the river to grow dope.

Island Mountain is a deadscape......very eerie.  Not a good place to head in to.  There is a lot in that general area that just reeks with trouble.  People keep to themselves, and want no intruders of any kind.  A real sad state of affairs.  Guns, grass, traps, bumpkins, unemployed....incest.....you name it, you can find it in and around the Island Mountain area.  Stay out of there!
