NWP Activity in March?

Any interesting rail movements in March? Haven't seen many train-action photos recently. Am in Seattle so unable to see NWP tracks clearly. Hope that there has been/is interesting activity going on. I suppose that rail train #5 has delivered more rail to NWP. How far has new rail been laid? I estimate that each rail-train has about 3.5mi. of track aboard with 50 rails of 1500 ft each cradled  on cars.  Steve

No rail activity since Jan. 18th?


No photos or videos posted since January 18th. Storm damage?  Been 2 weeks since last posted rail movement over NWP tracks. Anyone have photos/videos to post?

Carthage not Rome

 I must assume that people don't see the humor that I add to comments (i.e. Carthage building Rome) I must preface and suffix all my humorously intended comments as humor.

  However, since there is Car in Carthage we are talking about "car loads" of traffic to/from Eureka. The fully loaded cars of lumber would be about  100 tons plus tare wait ( I know that to tarry is to wait) and tarry wait on NWP to reestablish service to Eureka will be long-ton weight. Anyone besides me watching the Live Web cam from Rochelle, Ill.?

   This is a live web cam sponsored by Trains Magazine that overviews the crossing at Rochelle, Ill. of the UP main line out of Proviso west and the BNSF line up towards St.Paul from Aurora.  Both of these tracks are double tracks and activity can be up to 100 trains per day. The UP line is the main line west out of Chicago towards Omaha and all points west , northwest and southwest so plenty of rail activity to be seen. Eureka extension or reopening the NWP line north of Windsor

 How about either using large heliocopters to transport the containers to Windsor and then reloading onto rail at that point. All that needs to be done is construting a large facility in Windsor to hold maybe 2-300 containers and enough rail siding length to hold maybe 50-60 well cars. Plus there needs to be a landing sight and storage area for helicopters involved.  These facilities could be used for moving logs/lumber south for transloading onto rail. 500 million to renovate NWP trackage to Eureka? Eureka, I've found it as the saying went. I don't think that I would spend 500 million dollars to go to Eureka? I'd rather go to Saint Petersburg, Russia for that amount of cash/money or indebtedness. Think of all the lumber to be brought out of Arcata/Eureka? They could drop a bunch of them OLD redwood…

Centerbeam flatcar from Windsor?


  I thought that the centerbeam flat cars went loaded to Windsor and returned empty. This last video on October shows loaded centerbeam car southbound with 8 grain hoppers from the two grain receivers. Does Standard Structures receive loads and ship loads?  Anyone know?  Thanks, Steve

P.S. Where are the two grain receivers located. Am currently in Walnut Creek on vacation and will be returning to Seattle via U.S. 10l  from San Francisco. Might want to see the rail car…

NWP Videos or Photos October 2011?


Anybody with videos/photos of NWP movements in October of 2011? Saw the video of 8 loaded grain cars being taken to Petaluma and Santa Rosa. Any more recent photos/videos availble to be posted?  Being in Seattle I still can not see or even hear the trains down in Sonoma/Napa counties.  Thanks for posting and please keep ME posted.  Steve

September 16,2011 video


Good shot of NWP train of 9 MT grain cars. Always enjoy seeing entire train consist just to see which railroads are represented . Some folks watch for locomotives, I watch ( keep track of) reporting marks. Here in Seattle Edmonds we do get a variety of marks. Last week spotted a MoPac gondola with MP herald and MP marks--not UP mark. We see COER, NKCR marks ocassionally along with a PCN car couple of months ago. Never know when a shortliine car will appear along with various private…

Photos and videos posted.


  Thanks, guys, for posting both videos and photos onto site. However, it would be good if the videos showed something other than a single engine running light and if videos were taken when NWP train was in near distance rather than at far distance. In terms of photos, one photo of a scene is enough. 3 photos of same scene is a bit boring due to repetitiveness of images. If there is a clear difference in shots taken it is fine but 3 of basically same image is hard to fathom why…

Rail activity on Aug. 31 or Sept. 2, 2011

Anyone got photos or video of NWP movements on August 31 or Sept. 2,2011? Going to post them so that we distance challanged members can keep abreast of rail movements. Caught the video of August 29,2011 with 9 empties being moved back to interchange. Am looking forward to more recent NWP movements. As far as I can tell there have been 3 carloads to Standard frames (name?) in Windsor plus the grain movements to Dairymans and the other grain company since NWP reopened.
