Good News for the Skunk in the Press Democrat

Found this in the Press Democrat today:

Some good news for one of our favorite railroads that has been struggling financially for a while. I am curious to know what will happen to the old Willits depot when this new transit hub is completed, and hopefully how one day,…

NWP Bulkheads? Boxcars?

Hi guys,

Quick topic. Earlier today Carl O'Connor posted pictures of his new NWP bulkhead flat...I am doing the same on some others as well as some NWP boxcars.

My question is, hypotheticly on my "layout", the North Coast Railroad and black widow era NWP are still an operational Class 2 regional, based off the same operating plans that were used up until the last week of ops.

How realistic would it be for an NWP/NCR to own a fleet of rolling stock? MOW and your…

Another Letter to the Editor out of Novato...

What do you guys think?

I personally believe the NCRA is doing a good job, considering there wasn't movements for 8 or so years, although there are things that need to be fixed in it.

I didn't know the NWPco wasn't paying trackage…

Marin Trolley?

So I don't know if you guys have heard,

but Marin residents, and a few local politicians, are pushing to get a study done for the start of a new light rail/trolly network that would once again connect all of Marin together. The line will first run down busy congested areas of Larkspur, San Rafael  ect, and will use streetcars made to look and feel like those of the 20's and 30's, but will run on high-charge lithium batteries instead of overhead wires. Now they say it will improve apon…

Our Favorite Railfans

Our two favorite Railfans were out today, first let me make in known this PLACE IS NOT TO HARRASS OR SAY ANYTHING NEGITIVE ABOUT THESE GENTALMEN. Post something mean, I will delete your comment.

These two guys were out today, claiming to work for the railroad. This as far as we know is not the case. One did get into an argument with some railfans and some of their kids. A SMART worker lost it and became very irate against him, claiming he worked for neither railroad. There was no…

Add on to "NWP Intel"

Hey guys,

Aparently NWPco will paint all of its motive power using 1922 as the template, which means recently purchesed Genset 2009, now 2011, will be in scarlet grey.

NWPCO says they will not be using the black widow scheme because they do not want to accossiate themselves with John Darling's NWPY of 1996-2001.

There is a slight chance that SD9 in Yreka is headed to the NWP for SMART construction service, but niether SMART or the construction company have any…

Hey all!

Just found this post on TrainOrders:,2501136

Why is the NWP getting so much motive power when theres only 3 trains a week? If we were up to northern healdsburg I could see 1922 and 2009 lashed up together to haul, but three?

Whats your thoughts and takes on this?

Would be cool to see this loco in scarlet…

NWP/SMART Radio Freqs.

For those who had their HAMs out in Petaluma last week, we thank you!

Hopefully this will shine some new light for us railfanners:

On Wikipedia and TrainWeb, the radio frequencies used by NWP crews are posted, these frequencies listed expired from the NWP in 2003, and will no longer work..

However, I pulled this of the NWP Yahoo! fan page about SMART:

SMART maybe leasing the line to NCRA?

Hi all!

In my history class today we started disscussing the SMART train/ freight line. (dont ask me how we started, although I was pretty happy).

My teacher made a real good point in saying because SMART isn't even going to start until 2014, if even then, why cant they let the NWP/NCRA run freight over the line until say 2013, when during that year the discuss operating agreements. A because SMART is 350 mil. short, they could charge the NCRA for operating over their…

NCRA Locomotive

When i was talking to a neighbor last week, i let it slip that im a huge train buff and that i know alot about the NWP. He said he had heard a rumor that the NCRA had bought a locomotive, and he wanted to confirm it. embarassingly, i had no idea. I was wondering if anyone on the NWP network had any idea about this. While at the Redwood Empire Live Steamers meet in October, i over heard one of the riders say the NCRA was going to restore the 2 NWP locomotives and one of the more salvagable GP9s… Continue

when the line ran from 96-98, did the NWP own the black widow GPs and SDs? or were they leased? i can't find a solid confermation in the two years ive been looking. I know that when the line shut down, the locos were sent back to Omnitrax, but 2 stayed.

Wheres # 112?

Hey, i had one questine. I recently visited the Cal State RR mueseum, and explored pretty much the whole site, but could find no trace of NWP 10 wheeler #112. The closest i came to a NWP piece of rolling stock was one of the NPC locos on display in the round house.

I asked an employee (or vollunteer, i can't remember) where #112 was. He said he didn't know of any NWP equiment. When i got home, I cheaked the CSRRM website, but didn't find anything NWP, except that the museum in Jamestown… Continue
