Equipment Preservation

Hi folks, Here is a new dilemma, two pieces of historical value are up for 'grabs'. The first is SP 10 now in Texas; waterlogged from a hurricane and facing the scrapper. This was on the NWP for quite a while as the lone passenger service vehicle before AMTRAK started up. The second is a Whitcomb switcher currently at the Port of Sacramento. It too will soon see the scrappers torch if someone does not step forward to take her to a new home, SOON.

Hello Gus,

Some interesting maps shared by Richard Todd, perhaps already known to the NWPRRHS but worth a look, just in case:

Howdy Gus! Shortly after moving down from Portland to Oakland last fall I popped through Petaluma one chilly (pre-Christmas) weekend and found the restoration work site. Alas, no one was there but the Christmas tree lot crew so I kept going. I'll try to stop by again sometime this spring or summer.

Gus, Thanks so much. And please thank George, he went out of his way to provide information. I think these pictures were taken by my uncle Sam Jackson. Sam is the one seated on the handcar in my profile photo. I am posting two more pictures taken at the same time. He stayed with the NWP but the rest of the family had left by the end of WWII. This is valuable family information that I was unaware of. Thanks again, Bob

Gus, the NWPRRHS likely knows about this already but thought I'd send it your way on the off chance you and others weren't aware.  "Trains" magazine is "accepting proposals for its $10,000 preservation award. The grant will go to a nonprofit organization for the restoration or repair of a locomotive, rolling stock, or structure, or for the establishment or conservation of archives."  All the details are linked below, but the NWPRRHS seems a natural candidate for this award, especially since the NWP has just begun operations again after a long hiatus:

Hi Gus,
I would love to have the Pics, I am just not quite up to speed on photo handling on a PC yet. I am still setting up this laptop and even thought MS W7 is good it is quite involved. Thank You so much for remember that, I really appreciate it. Do you happen to know what the differences are between the NW 2 & NW 3? Do think there would be a problem putting them on this site. Another friend also found one from somewhere, maybe he could put it where you put yours? He is a new member on the site you could give him a call? Kent E. Olsson is his name. Hope you had a wonderful Christmas and New Year, now it's onward in 2010.
