It is aptly call called "Private Varnish" and very expensive to maintain. This group does that: http://www.aaprco.com/
I can say with personal experience that entering into one of these restored luxury cars is like entering into a different universe. Those of your that have been to the Sacramento Rail Museum can attest to that. I just experienced this again at the Shelburne, Vt. museum walking into the Grande Isle: https://shelburnemuseum.org/2016/06/28/highlights-work-private-car-...
I'm very pleased to see the Redwood volunteers taking on this project.
Here is a little look see of the inside
Is this the same car that sat in the Sausalito yard and was used for a period by actor Sterling Hayden in the '60's? If so, that would be awesome to have restored.
Set Top Box Fan:
I assume that you are relating a story back from the '50's or '60's.
Are you going to be around when connection is made to national rail system. Seems to me that we are looking at 75 to 100 years for that to happen----Even IF is does occur.
Best Wishes for a long and healthy live so you may live to see it---and enjoy seeing it.
If I were not wheelchair bound due to progressively advancing prostate cancer, I might have volunteered if I were a resident of California. As I am not a Californian I must decline any volunteer position. Also as I may not be among the living by the time the tourist train commences operation it might be impossible for me to either volunteer or take a ride. I furthermore am not a gentleman because I know how a gentleman behaves and I do not fit that criteria. Thanks for the well-intentioned suggestion. Steve
As a gentleman with so much interest and questions, I suggest you volunteer to help them get their tourist train running.
What sort of tourist train is contemplated. What length of ride? Cost estimate? Will it be point-t0-point or round trip or loop excursion? When is estimated operational startup? Is it well funded or is the operation well founded? Will it be all year or seasonal operation? Steam powered or diesel? Will there be freight photo trains? How about accommodations? Est price of trip? Does price include food beverage service? I would like to have map of proposed operations. Thanx, Mr. Bell
