I think the fence looks fine. SMART is choosing to install fencing along the right-of-way within city limits. That's their perogative. Once regular service starts, they can't have people walking the tracks like now with only a couple trains per week.

Good luck trying to do a telesmush shot around it. Can't shoot this spot anymore unless you hold the camera over the fence, or settle for a fence in the shot. Admittedly it could've been a lot worse, but still an ugly look. Fence on the NVRR? Well damn I might just have to shoot them before that line loses a piece of its soul as well.

Unfortunately expect to see a very similar fence along the Napa Valley RR between the north end of Napa and Yountville. They are building a bike path along the right of way that is in various stages of staking, plowed up, asphalt laid and fence erected along that section. The fence looks short enough to shoot over, but it will really cut down on wide shots considerably.

Even if he was a landscape architect, there's no way to make a fence look good. The only way to make this scene look better would have been to not build the fence at all. But I understand that this was the city of Novato's idea, so shame on them. They want a damn quiet zone plus this fence. What a bunch of pansies!

Agreed and you would think he would note upset local resident taxpayers who pay his wages.  But Mansourian is an RR guy and not a landscape architect.
