  He was born in 1918. Lived in San Rafael at 137 west end Ave. According to a 1940 census.

He died in Nov, 2000. Not a bad retirement. He was 82. He was 60 when he retired from NWP.

There is a picture of a younger Eugene "Gene" Ely in Angelo Figone's book on the NWP, on page 123.

Ironically, the photo is of a group of NWP officials celebrating the retirement of well-known engineer Clarence "C.E." Parr. The photo is from 1957.
