Did you mean " they are applying to start service then"
Rumors don't count. I need actual date of service commencement. I will probably be there to evaluate the service on a round-trip on Smart. Hope there is no robbery on the trips I will be taking. On the other trips o.k. but not on mine as I am me and no one else is.
My question remains, When is SMART now supposed to commence passenger service. They must have announced new date recently. First the bad engines and now what? Can anyone down there--Marin or Sonoma county call and get latest delay info? Bart is operating well except for robberies aboard their train to Dublin a few days ago. SMART doesn't have that problem----yet.
That's precisely why SMART's testing is taking so long. They will have the first fully-integrated positive train control system and that's what's supposed to prevent the sort of accidents you describe. As I understand it, if the PTC malfunctions, the whole system shuts down.
Again, folks down Petaluma/ Santa Rosa way. When is latest month that SMART will actually put some trains out on tracks for revenue purposes? I am awaiting to see when first error is made on those gauntlet tracks installed at stations and what damage is done by error. In Seattle on our monorail system built for worlds fair in 1962, there was a change made for the Music Project building putting the trackways too close together for trains (2 total) to pass. Well guess what, some dude driving train forgot the situation and both trains met-collided/sideswiped on section and the fire department had to rescue via ladder truck passeners and crew from stuck trains. Bozo engineers who designed a system built for a failure. Lucky it was not a catastrophe. Gauntlet tracks are designed for no human error or electrical malfunction. We know neither has ever ocurred . Let me know when SMART Starts and i will take wagers on when (NOT IF) first error takes place.
not much revenue in an empty car movement.
Another great photo Ron! Keep them coming.
Special thanks to Nico for the heads up last Sunday evening.
