Having your foot in the doorway is one thing;having it in the door is a different matter. Besides it is hard to walk with a door embedded upon foot. Not-to-be-denied sales folks are one thing holding onto property for who knows how long is different horse of another stripe.

Totally agree with you Bob.

Railbanking is one way to preserve RoW indefinitely, but it won't generate revenue for anyone.  Plus, I'm not aware of any Rails to Trails conversions that have later been converted back to Rails.

If instead of selling property the NCRA sold 10 to 30 years easements they could stand to earn a continuous stream of cash instead of big lump sums and retain ownership of the RoW.  I'm sure they thought of this but are desperate for the cash now.  This is called "visionary leadership" in my sarcasm dictionary.

I understand that NCRA has to support itself and is liquidating "surplus" land to raise cash.  I see from their meeting agenda posted on this forum  (thank you!) that they are apparently considering liquidating other property as well.  While I'm sure there is property that isn't needed, I'm concerned that their liquidation of property such as the Ukiah yard doesn't go too far.  If the day ever comes, and it likely eventually it will, though perhaps not in our lifetimes, that a working freight line will be again serving the North Coast, the purchase of comparable property is going to be extremely expensive and perhaps politically problematic.  It seems to me, when you have your foot in the door, you keep it there. No?

Did you mean to write the backhoe's on the left or did I miss something?  You have posted other photos and thank you.

The tractors in the background on the right....There is now a paved, LED lit walk path there.  The mainline is still present. The path goes from Clara Ave. to Gobbi St.

Good shot.  Track looks shot. What weight rail is shown? Any continuous rail here or only stick rail.

As Ukiah said " stick rail it to me.  But not Tom E Lee Jones.

;How do the trains get through this yard? If I were an engineer (always keep your engine near) I would be railing or derailing at all the track jumble.  Do they allow jumbo hoppers here?

NCRA sold the property to get developed if I remember right. Only the downtown yard and area around the depot
