Mark, I just spent an hour in the HSU collection looking at pictures in the Shuster collection. What facinating pictures!!!!! The picytures of the mills at Carlotta, Fields Landing and Hammand in Eureka are incredibule!! The mill at Fields landing is a modellers dream, If you built a mill that looked like that no one would believe you. I encourage everyone to Explore this treasure!!RT

My pleasure, Richard! The great thing about these photos are that they come (already scanned) from the amazing image collection found at the Humboldt State University Library:

http://library.humboldt.edu/humco/holdings/photocoll.htm

All I've been doing is copying them to this site about 20 at a time. If you take a look at the collection above search on "railroad" to get a fairly complete list of the railroading-related images in the massive collection. I've attempted to contact the librarian in charge of the collection to see about getting more of the images scanned (something I'd be willing to pay for) but have not yet received a response. I'll be adding more images from the collection soon, and thanks for looking! Regards,

Mark D.

Thank you Mark for adding these photos! Would you mind sharing just how you are capturing the images? I did some work making negatives for a book and I know what it took 20 years ago! I'll bet it is easier now.
