Just south of the CP&LT was a similar California shortline, the Amador Central RR .  It, too, used a 44 tonner and mostly hauled finished lumber from the mill at Martell to the SP connection at Ione, CA. Similar scenery to the CP&LT but much steeper grades. Old GE 44 tonner #8 had to stop and "cool everything down" halfway up the eastbound trip to the mill. They switched to a Baldwin S-12 a few years later.  Bob Hogan
